Mongolia steps up to improve greenery with spring planting
National Day for Planting Trees held at the initiatives of the President

On this day, President Battulga Khaltmaa, together with the staff of the Ulaanbaatar city First Maternity House, which is celebrating its 90th anniversary of establishment, participated in planting trees near the maternity house vicinity. Prime Minister Khurelsukh Ukhnaa and Ulaanbaatar City Governor Batbold Sundui participated in the opening ceremony of the Spring Planting Tree, which took place in the National Park, under the slogan Fresh Air for Everybody and Water for Every Tree. Representatives of public servants and employees of 40 organization and citizens planted 5 thousand trees and bushes of eight types in the zone of protecting source of drinking water in the National Park. “In addition to planting, it is important to look after the trees to ensure their further growth,” the Mayor emphasized.
“Everybody’s involvement is significant to make Ulaanbaatar a green city,” he added. The mayor also mentioned that in the framework of a goal on making Ulaanbaatar a green city, it is planned to establish mini parks in all districts of the city in addition to landscaping the National Park. “Planting is a great deed. It can be understood as a heritage left for our next generation,” the Prime Minister highlighted. On April 14, 2010, the President of Mongolia issued a decree of announcing a National Day of Planting Trees. Under the decree, Saturdays of the second week of May and October are announced as the national days of planting trees. According to the information provided by the President’s Office, since 2010, a total of 16 tree planting days were organized and a total of 1.27 million people and 68.9 thousand companies and organizations were involved, planting a total of 10.7 million trees and bushes. The survivorship of the planted trees stand at 75 percent (7.8 million). On the occasion of the day, the President Battulga Khaltmaa called for the public to plant trees, bushes and flowers, and tend after them, making it a lifestyle.
